As I mentioned a few weeks ago I teamed up with Beth Ann Photography to shoot a few hats and some of One Hand Knits Knitwear designs and here are some of the results. Although it took me a while to get used to being in front of the camera I quite enjoyed myself in the end.

ZOMG Bloggers Bash.

On Monday evening I was lucky enough to be involved in the huge ZOMG Bloggers bash for the launch of the new Rockalily Lipstick shade made for London Lip Gloss

There were almost 200 bloggers invited, all with a name badge!

Kelly of Hayday Honey was there for all your hair and makeup needs.

I had a selection of my hats for trying out.

Peeping over this rail is Lizzy of Betty Blues Loungerie who had her lovely wares for people to try on. I had a try of the Nell Robe, it's amazing and I want one to make my sitting round the house so much more glam!

Then you could go have your photo taken in Tigz Rice's pop up studio, the amazing results of which are here.

To top the evening off we were treated to Burlesque by Rubyyy Jones and Miss Banbury Cross, I was need the back so my photos of them were a bit rubbish sorry!

All in all it was a really fun evening and I got to meet lots of lovely ladies, see ReeRee's blog post on the event with lots of good photos and links to other posts here.

Wonderful Women first meeting of the year.

We had Our first Wonderful Women Minding Out Own Business meeting yesterday at Drink Shop a

& Do. The subject was managing your cash. It was a very useful if not a little mind boggling meeting!

There were some new faces there as well as some we hadn't seen in a wile and it's always lovely to catch up.

As ever I didn't take enough photos but here is one of Issy of Books and Ribbons who ran the session explaining cash flow with ReeRee of Rockalily using sugar cubes to illustrate the point!

An interactive Exhibition.

Between Christmas and new year I had a little trip to the Forkbeard Fantasy exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall. It was an interactive exhibition where there are things to play with and discover.

The Unicorn is amazing, you could pull ropes that make it walk and turn it's head or even lift it's tail!

I made friends with a giant rabbit!

There was lots of little things to look through, my favourite is this tiny theatre! It's so nice to go to an exhibition that you can touch and play with without getting told off and I have to say I enjoyed it as much as all the kids were!

One Hand Knits and Beth Ann Photography where doing a little photo shoot last weekend and as I was going to model for One hand Knits I took along some hats, I didn't get many photos myself as I was mostly in front of the camera, witch is a very new experience for me, I'm definitely no model!

Wonderful Women Christmas Party.

Last night was the Wonderful Women Christmas party. I was exited about this as between working alone and working in the pub it's years since I've had a party to go to.

Early on we decided we wanted to see some Christmas jumpers on the night so this helped motivate me to finish mine!

Here is me and Lizzi from Betty Blue's Loungerie she got that amazing jumper from etsy.

ReeRee our organiser and Rockalilly owner and Pip of Pip Jolley Jewellery in amazing matching jumpers.

We also did a secret Santa so we all left with a little something.

I couldn't have got a more appropriate gift! I got the Betty Blues bag and inside was some tea and a tea cup to help me make decisions!

I'm a huge tea lover and got it out this morning, here it is next to my little tea pot, isn't it cute.

Just a quick one to let you know why I've been so quiet, along with health issues meaning I've been sleeping a lot, and work issues that you don't need boring about, I am moving house this week. I'm really exited about it and am hoping it will be a nice fresh start for me.

I was involved in The Hat Collective Tea Party fashion show yesterday, there were 6 of us showing 3 or 4 hats each.

All the drinks were served in tea cups and the food for the afternoon tea looked amazing.

I little while ago I picked up a few lovely vintage hats that I haven't shown you yet and yesterday I wore the red one to the latest Wonderful Women Minding Our Own Business Meeting.

One of the things I love about this hat is that it has a little cut out at the back that fits my pony tail perfectly and I can still ware a quiff with it too.

And now for some very silly photos of me in a vintage style swimming cap I just picked up from my local chemist, I couldn't resist it as I didn't think they still made them!

A weekend of stalls

So as I told you my weekend kicked off with a stall at the London Rollergirls. I've never been before so it was all very exiting, I had a really good view from my stall though even with a program telling me how it all works I still got a little lost!

I have to say those ladies are pretty brave, I love the idea of the rollerskating but the actual derby is a bit brutal. The London Brawling team lost fairly heavily 49-228 to Rocky Mountain but they put up a hell of a fight.

I took my new hip flask with me with some lovely home made damson gin in it, it went down rather well!

Saturday was much more sedate, I arrived at the Boogaloo to find this little kitty sat in the garden.

You never know what markets in pubs are going to be like and august is always hit and miss and although the day was quite I got to meet some lovely people and was made very welcome by the organisers.

After all that I had a chilled out day and Sunday and am now getting ready for my next stall with the Crafty Fox Pop Up Market at the Thames Festival, you can see details on the facebook page here, on the Thames festival site and the Crafty Fox Blog.

Tonight I am very exited to be doing a stall at the London Brawling Vs Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. It's totally different from the type of things I normally do so we will see how it goes.

Tomorrow I am back at my more usual style of event at the Dandy Lion Market at The Boogaloo in Kentish Town

On Sunday I headed off to the Wonderful Women Minding Our Own Business meeting, it was an amazing sunny day and I felt the need to for my big hat. I made it many years ago and it comes out every summer!

Our meeting was on time management and was very helpful for me, as this is an area where I could use a lot of improvement!

As usual we met somewhere that does cocktails and look, mine came in a barrel!

I took a trip to Vintage at the Southbank today, not to see the bands, I can't afford the ticket, but you can get into the market area for free.

I was going really to show my support for some friends that have stalls there this weekend.

Lady Go Red and Kate Underdown Millinery are well worth a visit if you are free at all over the weekend.

A Slightly Damp Chap!

On Saturday I ventured out in the rain to go to The Chap Olympiad, I have to say at there were a few times at the begining of the day when we thought we would pop off to a nice dry pub but we stuck it out and eventualy the sun even came out to dry us off.
As ever I need to improve on the photo taking so you only get 3!

Hi all, after deciding to do more outfit posts I have had a camera disaster and it is currently in the shop being looked at, I do hope they can fix it and it doesn't cost me too much.

In other news I have been working of some jewelery for my shop and the stalls I do, so here is a look at the first designs, they are all available in my shop.

I had a fabulous night on Saturday on the HMS Belfast at a The Swing For Skin Charity night organised by DEBRA and the amazing Melissa aka Queenjelly.

I got to wear the suit I made in my dress making class some time ago, it took me a long time and a lot of effort went into it so it was good to give it an outing!

I wore the felt hat I blogged about making a while ago, and I must say it got plenty of compliments.

We took the opportunity to look round the ship and this chap scared me at least twice hiding in a corner so I thought it only polite to get my pic taken with him!

This is me and my friend posing at the front of the ship, it was really quite windy!

There was entertainment from the Polka Dot Dolls and the Lipstick and Curls ladies were on hand to do your hair and make up and a raffle with amazing prises. As ever I get to carried away drinking and meeting all sorts of lovely people that I forgot to take many photos!

All in all it was a fab night and I got to put some faces to twitter names and meet some bloggers in real life witch is always lovely. There is talk of them doing a 50s night next year and I'll definitely be there.

I was also luck enough to be commissioned to make Melissa a hat for the evening and here are some slightly dodgy photos of it I took before I gave it to her. Unfortunately the wind on the night proved too much for it and Mel had to take it off so I don't have any photos of her waring it but she looked lovely all the same.

Briar Rose Vintage Knitting

As you may know I have been doing the knit along with the lovely By Gum By Golly and this week I finished the Briar Rose jumper, I'm so pleased, you cant really see in the pics but the yarn has a very subtle sparkle to it. It fits really well and the pocket so so cute.

As previously promised, here are the hats I bought on my little day trip, the first has some of the most amazing coloured feathers on it I have ever seen, non of my pics truly do it justice. The shape is very 60's and not at all me but I couldn't resit such amazing feathers.

And now for some silly pics of me in it!

The second is a 50's hat, the shape is lovely and being plain black I can trim it to go with all sorts.

It doesn't photograph very well against my hair, but I ave the classic shape.

A weekend of bands and stalls.

May Bank holiday weekend is traditionally the weekend the pub I work in puts on a huge music event, its been going for quite a few years now and this year the boss lady asked me to sort out some stalls for the garden.

Obviously the first person to get a stall was me! Luckily I had plenty of stock already made up.

We also had a selection of illustrators selling there prints, cards and other goodies.

There was Vicky Scott, Sarah Gooch and Amy Walters.

On the Sunday the lovely girls from Frocks That Rock came and set up a vintage stall, and I found an amazing suit, that I'll show you soon.

We were lucky the weather was so lovely and there was a good atmosphere and although the muso's are all skint we all sold enough to make it worth it. As you can see by this pic taken of me by my friend it was a hard weekend!

Just as a side note the boss lady of the Fox & Firkin loves supporting us makers and is thinking we could maybe take over the garden with stalls one Sunday over the summer so if any of you are interested in being involved let me know and I'll keep you posted.

A little day trip

As I'm getting better I decided to take a little day trip to Lancaster to go and visit The Assembly rooms market. I went to collage in Lancaster and it was this market that keep my love of vintage alive and I was really pleased to find it is still open.

The building is owned by the council and is rented out to all sorts of stall holders, mostly clothes but also records and antiques. It also has a lovely little cafe that is well worth a stop at.

The main room has an impressive selection of vintage clothes but my favourite is the sack room run by the very helpful Malcolm who will chat to you and help you find anything and his room is a real treasure trove so well worth taking your time in.

I bought a couple of vintage hats that I'll show you once I get some photos done. If you are ever in Lancaster do pop and have a look in this amazing place it's open Tues to sat and another good review is here.

Getting better

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm getting much better, I'm on some temporary meds that have me feeling really well, and although I now I can't stay on them it's nice to have a break while my specialists work out where we go next.

I'm staying with my Mum at the moment in the town of Kendal, the weather is amazing and the old part of town she lives in is lovely,so I thought I'd share some iphone pics.

Arthritis

As some of you know I have a form of arthritis that affects my whole body, recently I have been going through a particularly bad phase and have had to get signed off work and go and stay with family so they can look after me.

The nature of the disease means that although I am quite unwell I look fine, on a good day I will just move a little awkwardly and on a bad day I’m in bed so no one sees me, so I struggle with feeling guilty that I don’t look sicker when I’m signed off work, I also worry too much about weather people believe me as I look ok and my only way of coping is to focus on the positives so when people ask me how I am I will always say I’m doing well even if I’m in pain. I am learning to deal with these things but like all things it takes time.

Being ill means I am struggling to do any of the things I love and tend to write about here, I’m managing to knit a little but am not hat making and living the creative life that I am used to so don’t feel I have much to say but one of the things that keep me going through these hard times are the blogs I read, they keep me inspired and up beat and I thank you all for that, so even if I’m not commenting on your blog I’m still around.

I’m slowly getting better and can do more so I hope to be able to get back into posting soon.

Luckily for me my dad lives in the very beautiful Yorkshire dales, and the weather has been lovely(up until today), so my little recovery walks are a treat.

Spring is always a little later up here that in london but it has sure arrived now and that always cheers me up.

Knit along

I'm doing the Vintage knit along that the ever so talented by gum, by golly is doing. We have chose the pattern we are using and are just looking at re sizing.

As for colour, I'm not sure yet weather I'm going with mustard or ivory but I'm thinking something quite neutral would be good as than I'll wear it more.

We are not due to start knitting until the beginning of March so if you want to join in there is still time.

Little Boxes

So a little more o the presents I got for Christmas, from my Dad and Step mum I got a series of little boxes.

Box 1 is red and covered in velvet and was lovely to open.

Inside is a very old knitting set, I'm not sure all these bits are original to the box but the double pointed needles and the thimble are.

The next box was a little more confusing to open as it is a very old cardboard box with a sticker for a opticians on it.

Inside was more old knitting/crochet paraphernalia, including stitch holders and ivory handles crochet hooks

Also in the box was a fold out tape measure with all the needle sizes on it.

The third box had me a little confused as no one really expects to get a tin of Colman's mustard for Christmas!

But by this point I'm wise to my dear step mums games and quickly open it to reveal an amazing selection of vintage buttons

I think these 30's ones are my favourite, not sure what I will use them for yet but it will be something special.

Also in the box was this amazing belt buckle, I think I may knit a belt for it but an going to spend some time searching out the right yarn to do it justice.

So there you have it, my collection of little boxes, I'm beginning to realise that my step mum could put most of us to shame with her thrifting ways!

Hat Pin

Thought I'd try and get back into posting with a little show of some things I got for Christmas(i know it's been ages!). So first is the amazing hat pin my mum got me, I spotted it in the window of an antique shop near her house and fell in love and she so kindly got it for me.

The most amazing thing about this pin is the length, its 27cm(10.5) inches long!

Its really rare to find hat pins this long these days so I was supper exited.

It's made by Charles Horner and is described as a Silver Chester pin.

Not the most amazing photos sorry, it's so dark at the moment!

Charles Horner was from Halifax was born in 1837 and died in 1896 and his business lasted until 1984. The designs in his silver work were stunning and it you are interested in learning more have a look here.

Christmas week.

Hi all, I know it's been a long time but I don't like to post much when I'm ill and my arthritis has been giving me a hard time recently. Having said that things are looking up as I'm starting on some new meds soon and while I've been ill I've got to sped some time with my family who have

been amazing.

With all the being tired all the time Christmas kind of snuck up on me! It was lovely though, I missed all the travel chaos as I went up north early to be pampered my by mum who looked after me and fed me up for a week. Then Christmas week I headed over to my dads and spent a lovely few days at his cozy house.

My dad's house has an Aga and I love to spend my mornings with my feet in the bottom over!

Boxing day I pushed myself a bit and went for a little walk to a waterfall witch was all frozen and looked amazing.

I'll show you some of the amazing things my family gave me at some point but for now I hope you all had a lovely holiday season and have some fun planes for the new year.

winter craft Market

I'm Helping put on a winter market at the Fox and Firkin on the 28th November it is the first one for the fox but it should be a really good day, there will be lost of stalls and live acoustic music and mulled wine.

The cold weather has me thinking about wrapping up warm but still looking stylish, always a challenge, but I'm thinking of trying to keep in feminine too. I'm loving plaids and browns at the moment as you can see by the next few pics.

Etsy Meet up

I went to the Jumpstart your creative enterprise with Blurb, Etsy UK and Moo meet up in London on Friday, I met some lovely people and got advice from photographer Alex Brenner on my photos and generally had a good day.

The etsy team started the day with a lecture on starting up your business then a talk on photography by Alex. Then Moo told us a bit about marketing and there lovely range of products. After some sandwitches and tea Blurb talked about how they can help you make your own book.

Everyone there was very helpful and I came away with lots of ideas.

I met some lovely talented people, hear are some pics of there work.

This is isamo crochet, Izabela makes really amazing shawls and intricate crochet earrings, you can see more of her work on her blog or in her etsy shop.

i also met Amy Walters who is an illustrator and makes cards and jewellery inspired by that.

At the end of the day we all got our photos taken with our work for a Blurb book, witch was a little odd but fun.

Lomo Lubilel

Quite some time ago I picked up an old Lubital on e bay really cheep, it's a lovely thing and even has it's original case. It arrived and seemed to be in full working order, the only problem is the I have no idea how to use a medium format twin lens camera! So a few weeks ago I went on a little course at the london Lomo shop/gallery for there Lubitel 166+ and although mine is much older they work the same.

The course includes the use of a camera for the evening and a film, plus a discount on the processing. The people at the gallery were lovely, and gave us a little lesson in the basics of the camera and the sent us out into the surrounding areas to have a play.

It was dark and don't think I quite got my light settings right but it gave me the confidence to have a go. Feel free to go over to my flickr and have a look at more.

Wonderful Working Women

Sunday I went to the second meeting of Wonderful Working Women organised by ReeRee Rockette. We all met at Proud Camden.

The idea is for women at various stages of setting up there own business to meet up and network and share experiences and ideas.

Everyone there was lovely and I'd encourage any lady at any stage of trying to set yourself up to come along as it's a fun afternoon as well as being helpful.

London Tattoo Convention.

I have finally got to sorting myself out after the Tattoo convention so hear are few pics, I was so crazy busy I didn't take enough of what was going on though.

Here is my stall anyway.

I shared it with the lovely Paradisaea of Sacre Coeur
who makes lovely jewellery and accessories, that's her on the right and on the left is my friend Anna who helped me out over the weekend.

All the stalls are downstairs and we were lucky enough to be right next to the main stage, so got to see the Fuel Girls Perform daily.

A friend took these two pics, the first of me and I think I changed my hat on an hourly bases! The second of a friend in one of my mini bowlers, he looks quite fetching!

All in all I had a really lovely weekend even though I didn't sell as much as I would have liked, I did get to meet some lovely people and that makes it worth it.

Do you remember me showing you the Prefect Christmas jumper from the Vintage gifts to knit book by Susan Crawford, well I actually started knitting it, still not convinced I can get it done in time as I have so much on and am a slow knitter but I'm going to give it a go.

This is a pic of the amazing and lovely original.

I decided I wanted snow flakes rather than the trees in the origonal and luckly the swatch I did had the same tension so I went ahead and changed the design, I'm still having the rain deer though.

A very exiting day, I have been in a pop up shop in kingly court just off Carnaby street selling my and others hats. if you are london based we will be there for at least the next 2 weeks so do come see us.

This is the station I go to and from when I visit my dad. It's the highest station in England and if you are the only one there it feels amazingly remote as it's 5 miles outside the village. I once heard a tourist ask farmer why that was and he replied "coz they wanted it near the train tracks" witch you can't argue with!

You may have noticed by the lack of posts that I've been struggling with words lately, I don't know where they went but I can't seem to find them.

So inspired by the lovely Susannah Conway I will be doing The August Break

The general idea is simply to share one photo per day on your blog (probably Monday to Friday) using any camera (probably my iPhone) for the whole of August.

No words, no pressure.

I like that idea and think it may be what I need to get me back into the swing of things.

Enchanting

I decided to take some time out today to do something I have been meaning to do for some time. I went to Kensington Palace to see the Enchanted palace exhibition, and I must say I was blown away. They have transformed the rooms of the palace into a fairytale art installation in witch you get to learn a little about the princesses that have inhabited the palace over the years. It's very interactive and I loved that, there is also a room full of hats by Stephen Jones as well as some amazing dresses. If you are in London at all over the next couple of months I would highly recommend going.

You cant take photos in the house itself but I did take a couple in the gardens, witch are worth a visit on there own.

Evening walks.

I don't finish work until 7 or 8 in the evening when I work at the pub, in the winter this can be a little depressing as you feel like all you can do once finished is eat and go to bed but at this time of year the evening still stretches ahead of me and to make the most of it i have been going for evening walks in our local parks. It's a lovely time of day and helps me wind down from work and we have some lovely parks hear in south east London.

Both these pics were taken in Hilly Fields witch is a favourite of mine.

I'm sorry I have been so absent recently, everything has been crazy busy, but I am trying to get on top of everything now. As well as finishing collage I have started work experience with Noel Stewart, I'm so lucky to have a chance to work with someone so talented and as a bonus it's really good fun. So I'm hoping to be about a bit more now, though I have to admit the lovely weather pulls me out and away from the computer!

Just thought I'd let you know where I've been hiding! My final collection of hats is due in next week and it's all a bit crazy, I thought I'd give you a sneak peek at it. All my hats are inspired by old sailor tattoos.

There is an exhibition of all the classes hats, the private view is on the 8th of june info is here if anyone is in london and wants to come along.

Well I added some quills to it and it got picked by the buyer from Fenwick of Bond street to go in the shop this summer! I'm really pleased so if you have a pink dress for ascot you should go buy it!

One of the girls I work with was selling an old canon 400d digital camera very cheap so I snapped it up!

These are the photos I took in it's first big outing. Me and a friend had a day at the seaside down in Eastbourne, the weather very English i.e windy and cold, though we did get some sun on the second day. We had a lovely time though and although I have a lot to learn about the camera I'm quite pleased with some of the pics. Do go take a look at more on my flicker page.

I went to an Alice in Wonderland night on friday, I decided i didn't want to go as Alice or the Red Queen so I made myself a flamingo outfit!

These are not the best photos but I made a pointed bustle and beak hat(I could't see that well!).

This is me and my friend Anna, she was a red queen, she's a really talented knitter,I'm planning a post about her stuff soon.

I know, it's been a long time! I have been so busy I've not had much time. Believe it or not I have been running a pub, that's on top of all my collage work! I'm on Easter break now and I hand the pub back next week, I can't wait. I can categorically say I never want my own pub.

China Town

Mondays are so busy for me I rarely get time to post, so this is my weekend post now!
On Sunday me and some friends headed into Soho and china town for some Chinese new years celebrations. It was quite a dull day and I took most of my photos on my new Diana mini so they are not back yet. There was so much going on everywhere you looked and we manage to avoid the rain all day it was lovely. Though if anyone could tell me the significance of the cabbage the dragon eats from the shop doorways, I'd be grateful.

We took a break from the madness outside to go for Dim Sum at Plum Valley and boy was it worth it! It was the best dim sum I've have ever had and perhaps the prettiest too, I ate so much my friends nearly had to roll me home after!

Vintage knitting patterns.

One of the people that comes to my knitting group goes to a very different one on a Thursday(she calls us her young group and this one old one!), and she told us they have a large amount of vintage knitting patterns that for a donation you can photocopy so me and a friend had a little outing today since I'm on half term.

The group is held in the Reminiscence center in Blackheath and all the lades were very friendly, the centre is lovely and sells tea and a fab array of sweets from jars.

I fell in love with this hat that was on display!

we spent 2 hours going through the patterns and had t0 be very controlled about what to copy, I came away with 5 lovely patterns and am very exited about giving them a go.

As promised hear is my latest hat from collage, unusually for me I don't totally hate it! It is nothing like what I started out to make but that is so often the way.

We start our final collection next, it has to be 5 hats and lots of designs and all needs to be based on a theme. I've got too many ideas as to what my theme should be but the front runners at the moment are Fairytale or A tea party. I'm really nervous about the whole thing but I guise it's just all a bit daunting at the moment and once I make a decision and throw myself into it I'll be fine.

The lovely Riikka over at Harlean's Hayday pointed out that What Katie Did have given us a very tempting sneak preview into there SS10 collection today and I am as taken as ever. I love there stuff and am always tempted to treat myself to something, my french nickers from them are an absolute favorite. Unfortunately I'm a wee girl and very few of there bras go down to my size but I'm hoping these swimming costumes will.

I am having a bad time with my arthritis at the moment as so am taking things as easy as possible, but I thought I'd do some posts on the things that cheer me up when I'm in pain and achy like this.

No 1 is definitely my bath, getting in and out is a problem but I could spend hours in it once I'm there.

It snowed again last night, so no collage for me today , I have spent the day being productive though, doing sketches and drinking hot chocolate.
I love the snow but my arthritis dose not, so we have come to a compromise where I admire snow from inside and in pictures!

I know Christmas is over but I just found the most amazing Christmas jumper pattern and if I start knitting it soon I may have it finished for next Christmas! Isn't it lovely, its from a new booklet by Susan Crawford who also worked on the book A Stitch In Time and is called Vintage Christmas Knits. Both books are available from the Knit on the net shop. The pattern is called The perfect Christmas jumper and I couldn't agree more.

I have to work new years eve in the pub, I don't really mind as I always find the night a bit of a let down. The pub has a white masquerade ball theme going on so I've been trying to get some ideas about my mask. Once again I have to apologise for disappearing, things have been so crazy, the end of term was deadline packed but hear is a pic of the hat I was working on, the whole project was based on felt and what you can do with it and my crown needed an amazing amount of hand sewing, I'll try get you a better pic soon.

I've also been trying to get myself organised for the festive season and thought I'd show you some pics of the decorations I've been putting up at work. The pub is mostly black so for impact we used only white in the decorations and lights.

The pearl draped chandeliers are my favorite. We are hoping to win the company competition, it's being judged tomorrow so wish us luck!

This weather always makes me want to curl up in the evenings with a book, I'm just finishing Elsa Schiaparelli's autobiography at the moment, I needed to read it for collage but have really enjoyed it, she was quite a lady. What's keeping you company on the cold evenings?
